What is HPL Table Top?
HPL table top is a High Pressure Laminate made from melamine impregnated decorative craft paper fused onto a black phenolic resin core reinforced with cellulose fiber using a proprietary process. The result is an extremely dense, compact, strong and flat table top.
What is the surface made from?
HPL table top surface is melamine, one of the world toughest plastics. Melamine is so scratch, burn, water and food stain resistant that it is used in dinnerware, ashtrays and other commercial grade products that must stand up to intensive use and cleaning. HPL surface will resist temperatures up to 275 F. The surface will not harbor bacteria nor mildew. The fine texture further enhances the matte finish of the table top. Table top edges are impact and water resistant.
Is it a particle board laminated product?
No. There are no wood particles in the core of HPL table top. Further, there is no glue to bond the melamine decorative surface to the core of the table top. The saturated resin core of HPL makes it resistant to moisture and water absorption. Glued laminates are only as strong as the adhesive and often can be peeled off. The HPL manufacturing process uses intense heat and pressure to fuse the core and the surface of the table top.
Can I use these table tops outdoors?
Yes
Product safety
HPL is an exceptionally safe surfacing material. Amazingly heavy for its thickness, it contributes to the stability of the complete table. Once assembled and secured to a heavy metal base using Grosfillex universal rail system, it will not tip over. There is no need for a protective edge that can trap bacteria. No sharp edges that could inflict injury.
How strong is the table top assembly to the table base?
Grosfillex HPL comes with a nominal ½ in thickness as opposed to 3/8” for other imported products. HPL table tops come with Grosfillex universal rail system which allows several types of metal bases to be used with them. The dense core of HPL table tops allows the use of screws to provide a pull strength that is even or better than most other laminates. Grosfillex has developed three different models of table bases specifically designed to fit each size of these table tops. While other “market” metal bases may be fitted onto their HPL table tops, Grosfillex cannot guarantee that the final tables made from these bases will not fail nor tip over during use.
How long will my HPL table top last?
It will depend on the amount of use. With a little care, these commercial grade tabletops can last for many years. Grosfillex has a two year limited warranty on these tabletops, including their resistance to rotting and decay, blistering, cracking or peeling. Further, HPL table tops are color fade resistant for a regular application when tested in accordance to ASTM G7.05.
What colors and patterns are readily available?
HPL table tops can be manufactured in a wide variety of colors and decors. Grosfillex offers a variety of decors to match current styling trends of contemporary commercial furniture.
How do I clean my table top?
HPL can be cleaned with a damp cloth and a mild detergent. Use of abrasive cleaners, powders, scouring pads, steel
wool, or sandpaper can damage the finish of the decorative surface. Acid or alkaline based cleaners and /or compounds will mar, etch, corrode and permanently discolor melamine decorative surface of HPL.
